Sonnet I
If you could be more cheerful
And try not to be so down.
If you were only less tearful
And to smile instead of frown.
Then maybe some day you would sing
For silence knows no harmony.
Much joy and laughter you would bring
And your heart too, would be free.
You should be more independent in love
For loneliness knows no lover,
Then you could fly like the dove
For you could be no other.
Be some of these, if only you can
And I will be a happier man.
