Reflections
Reflections of yesterday came to me
while I was staring into my past.
Memories of what we once had
formed droplets on my beer glass.
I wondered how she was doing.
I hoped she was doing fine.
Then I drifted off on a memory
of when she once was mine.
The droplets that rolled down the glass
could not compare in size
to the ones that clouded my vision
as they formed and blurred my eyes.
I never did understand how
I managed to let her go.
But believe me I have paid for it
more than you'll ever know.
I had never been a successful man
and for wealth we never cared.
We had our health and our happiness
and our love, together, we shared.
Oh, take me back sweet memory.
Turn back the hands of time
and place my body next to hers
and place her hand in mine.
