My Friend and Roommate Jim

This is my friend James, whom we Americans referred to as Jim (Jim, Jimbo, etc.). He is originally from Leeds, England which is more in the northern region, where his classmates fondly referred to him as "Tweet" (I got that tidbit from his Mum! <grin>). Do not be fooled by the camera angle...he is not seven feet tall! Actually, Jim stands around 5'8" and weighs 120lbs (well, 145 actually).

Jim is a long distance runner. He actually appeared in the opening of the motion picture"Chariots of Fire" as one of the runners on the beach, in Scotland. Jim ran here for St. Andrews College and broke just about every record we had! Unfortunately, Jim's times were not posted as official times and they were disqualified as he had previously graduated from a four year university. Jim graduated from St. Andrews University, in St. Andrews, Scotland and was "invited" over here to run for our beloved St. Andrews College.

Jim married his long-time college flame Gretchen Stein. I had the honor of being Jim's best man at their wedding, which was held in beautiful Oberlin, OH. Jim and Gretchen moved from Charlotte, NC to Vancouver, WA, where Jim works for Carl Zeiss, USA. They are proud parents of two lovely daughters, and a son (Honor Elizabeth, Madeleine, and Callum)! I hope to visit with them one day soon....

*Update* It is with sad regret that I mention that Gretchen passed away from cancer in March of 2002. Gretchen's spirit still lives on in her children. Jim has since been remarried to a wonderful woman...
