2002's

Liz Pisarczyk - 2002

"So I ventured through your website quite a bit. I was amazed by all the stories and words of reflection. I am a graduate of 2002. Yes, quite the young one and I am wondering if all these alumni who have written before me ever come back to check on any updates. I can't say that I know about others who are being sought out; I haven't run into anyone who graduated in the 90's or 80's who may be your roommates or long lost friends. I'm sorry for that, but I am so glad to read about the beautiful lives you all have gone on to create for yourselves. I guess I just felt inspired enough to say that St. Andrews, although I imagine has changed so much over the years, continues to be this secret place where wonderful beings step in and step out to be even more wonderful. Ron Bayes, Neil Bushoven, Dick Prust, Dr. A., and so many more new faculty, all of which contain the St. Andrews essence, are still around and doing their thing. While I was there, I made it a personal goal to have each one of them as my prof. even though the classes were not part of my major. It was well worth it. I did experience Mel Bringle as well, however, she left after my second year. Some of you probably remember the McDavid's. They've been to Brunnenburg too many times, but I can't blame them. That is quite the adventure. I wish I had a funny story or something to tell. I guess only that on May 11, 2002 it rained. And that is only important because supposedly, it hadn't rained on a St. Andrews graduation day in about 20 years or so... well, I suppose it added yet to my unique experience at St. Andrews, because our graduation was held indoors. Sad, because I had wanted for such a long time to be led across the lake by the bagpipes, but it created something more for me to close it all off. Best of luck to all of you who are searching...but something tells me, we've already found quite a lot."

1990's

1991 - Chris Edwards

"I am a 1991 graduate of St. A's. I am currently living and working in the Philippines. I just so happen to be visiting St. Andrews graduates Anton Wiley, Kim Fayet, Shannon Gill, and Lorrie Jean here in Hong Kong. My work allows me to travel and I spend much time in HK.

Anton and Kim have announced their wedding plans and will be tieing the knot in Zimbabwe in May 98. They plan on eventually moving all the cool Chinese things they have bought in the past 7 years of living here and moving them to Zim where they hope to start a business and have some kids.

Shannon has been in HK for four years and is currently in a senior position with the local buying office of the Disney Company. She Anton and Kim and Mickey Mouse share a flat together.

Lorrie Jean has been here almost two years now and has recently changed jobs. She is now working for an internet service provider that targets China. She is very happy with her new job.

I am the territory manager for a Canadian company that auctions industrial construction equipment. I spend much of my time traveling Asia sourcing equipment for our auctions which we hold in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone in the Philippines (the former American Naval Base). I have been in the Philippines for 18 months and previous to this, I spent 3 years in Hong Kong and 1 year in Seoul, Korea. I still enjoy playing rugby (of which I helped to create the St. Andrews Rhinos Rugby Club, which thrived in the early 90's at SA). I have played in Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Vietnam and the Philippines.

All of us over here have very found memories of St. Andrews and talk about those days very often. I believe that none of would be here if it were not for St. Andrews and the opportunities that the School provided us with.

Although I am currently using Anton Wiley's email, I can be reached at eagle1@mail.subictel.sequel.net I would love to hear from any one."

1991 - Louie Wemett

"I graduated from St. Andrews in 1991. I was an older student (28) and really miss it. I moved to Laurinburg from Iowa and worked for the college in the P.E Center. One of my first prof. was the legendary guru of power and politics Neil Bushoven. I blame him for my liberal bias.. Just kidding Neil was great, Dick Prust was great and "the St.Andrews experience" was great. I studied journalism and became a TV sports anchor. I now reside in Salt Lake City, UT and would like to know if there are other Knights in the area... St. Andrews forever..." e-mail Louie Wemett

1990 - Jennifer (Barrnett) Suleiman

My name is Jennifer Suleiman (formerly Barnett) and I attended St Andrews in 1990. I was majoring in Spanish and was in the Honors program. Unfortunately, I met someone in the beginning of my studies who became a serious boyfriend, but he was really horrible to me and helped to severely ruin my first semester there. I had a great roommate, Patrice Barrentine, and I am looking for her now, so if anyone has any information, I would love to know how to contact her!
Anyway, a good friend, John Wheeler, rescued me from my dismay w/ the boyfriend, and we ended up dropping out in the Spring of 1991. He went to Maryland, and I went to Birmingham, AL where I attended UAB and graduated in 1994. I'm now working on a Masters in Education and am a 7th and 8th grade teacher.
I loved St Andrews for its charm and warmth. I just hate that I did not realize how great it was at the time and I often wonder how that bagpipe graduation ceremony would have been. I remember Anton, and others from Zimbabwe who were the nicest people I had ever met. I also remember my Spanish professor Lee Dubs (sp?). And Mel Bringle. Great people.
If anyone gets this and knows how I can reach former alumni, please let me know.

Thank You,
Jennifer B. Suleiman"

1990 - Ernest Musengwa

"My name is Ernest Musengwa and I graduated from St.Andrews in 1990. I had a great experience at St.Andrews and I am proud that I attended that college. I ran track and cross country. We had a great team even though we did not necessarily win, we placed once in a while. I think it was just more fun to go to the meet and do our best rather than kill ourselves trying to win. I wish was still in as good a shape. I also played soccer, intramurals and other pick up games.

I left St.Andrews with a BA and a girlfriend who is now my wife. We both treasure our St. Andrews experience. We made a lot of friends there and we are still in touch with some and wish to hook back up with some of the long lost friends." -e-mail Ernest Musengwa

1990 - Bobby Musengwa

Thank you for designing this website! My name is Bobby Musengwa, a St. Andrews' graduate of 1990, and the younger brother of Ernest Musengwa. Coming from the townships of Pretoria, South Africa, St. Andrews was the best place for me. I learned and grew a lot there. Besides playing soccer, tennis, and other intramural activities, I also made great friendships with students from around the world. We created the International Student Organization to assist international students with adjusting to the new American environment. We had fun cooking those various dishes from around the world during Culture Week. I also enjoyed being Attorney General of the Student Government for two of the 3 1/2 years I spent there.
After graduating from St.Andrews I went on to get two Masters degrees, one from Princeton Seminary. Now I am an ordained Presbyterian minister at Vernon Presbyterian Church, Big Bend, Wisconsin. I had tried hard to avoid going into the ministry. I even tried law school in South Africa, but eventually I ended up returning here in the tundra of Wisconsin. My wife and I have two girls, and we love them greatly! Hope to hear from you and other friends of St. Andrews!
Peace,
Bobby Musengwa

1988 - Rob McLean

"Great webpage! My name is Rob McLean and I graduated in 1988. I graduated with a double major in Philosophy and English (but I spent a lot of time playing on the not so successful but always entertaining soccer team); therefore, I had absolutely no marketable skills whatsoever. The only thing to do: Become a lawyer. I am now practicing in Ocala, Florida. I would love to hear from other alumni." - e-mail Rob McLean

Kent Prevatte 1983 - 1987

I attended St. A's from 1983 to 1987 leaving before getting my degree. I married my lovely wife of 19 years in January of 1987. We have two children the oldest of which is graduating High School with honors this year. I hope to be back at St. A's in the fall of 06 to complete my degree at the same time my daughter will begin her college career. I have many fond memories of the campus and the people and miss the old days in Winston or on the beach at Granville. Your web page brings back to mind many of the good times that where to be had. And by the way I did recognize you from the pictures even though we only met in passing over a short period of time.

I graduated from St. Andrews in 1985. Like many others, I could never really decide on a major. I tended to lean toward philosophy, but my practical side had me majoring in psychology. The learning experience was unlike any other I have ever experienced, and that includes several schools that have I attended after finishing at St. Andrews. All around were students and professors who stimulated you to think about yourself and your world. What a wonderful way to grow and learn about life. Of course, it wasn't just isolated academics. It was actual life and living. Our lifestyles were so closely tied to our learning and thinking - something which I think is probably very rare in our world today.

Since graduating, I have done a variety of things: Received an MA in clinical psychology at Loyola College in Maryland. Worked with prisoners, heroin addicts and juvenile delinquents. Changed careers by moving into the computer field. Started my own computer consulting business. Made a wonderful hobby of sailing. (I first sailed on a daysailer at St. Andrews) Got married. And now my wife and I are expecting twin boys!!!

Like many other alums, I feel that St. Andrews gave me a perspective which is different than most. At times, it is difficult to have this perspective because we are so much more sensitive to many of the painful things in our world. On the other hand, it is wonderful to live life with the kind of intensity and purpose that this same perspective provides. Thanks again for taking the time and effort to create such a wonderful tribute to St. Andrews. -e-mail Vartan

1983-1984 - Tracy and Katie H. Flemming

"1984 and 1983 alumni Katie H Fleming and Tracy Fleming say hello to old SAPC friends!! Although so many years have passed, we often think of the wonderful times and good people we knew!!! Please write to us at SANDWEDGENC@PRODIGY.NET"

Mark Holmes 1982

"Enjoyed your WEB page. I especially enjoyed the pictures of St. Andrews. It sure brings back the memories! My name is Mark Holmes and was in the Class of '82. It seems that my years at St. Andrews were a transition period for the school. Enrollment was down and I think there was genuine concern what direction the school was going. It's pretty obvious that things are back on the right track!

As for me, I graduated with a B.A. in Politics and Secondary Education. I taught High School for a year just of college. It really wasn't my calling, so I moved on to a variety of jobs over a period of a couple of years. In 1986, I took a job with Orange County (Florida) Corrections. Believe it or not, I started as a Correctional Officer! I went to the Police Academy, learned to shoot a gun and take down bad guys! Here it is nearly 14 years later and I am still working with Orange County. I am currently working in our Mental Health Unit, working as an advocate for our mentally ill jail population.

Things are great here in Orlando. I live with my long term partner, Jim, our two Golden Retreivers and two cats. Would love to hear from any of my old friends from St. Andrews. It's been a long time!" -e-mail Mark

1981 - Lance McQuage III

"My name is Lance McQuage III I attended St. Andrews from Sept. of '77 to May of '81. I graduated with a BA in Religion. At the time the college did not have a minors program, but if it had I would have probably minored in Philosophy as well. In fact I only fell a couple of courses shy of having a double major. I basically learned of ST. Andrews by word of mouth. I had already been accepted to Campbell College (now University), prior to learning of SAPC. I visited the campus and new that it met my needs much better, partly because I had Hemophilia, and was often on crutches, so the layout of the campus and the barrier free aspects of the institution was plusses. I met my first true love there at St. Andrews. She was a girl in a wheel chair who I had to get to know the first time I saw her. She was a senior, an English major, and we got to know each other pretty well, though we never dated until the end of my first year. I have since then lost contact with her, but I will always remember her. I also had a friend, male, who was also a "wheelie" as we called them then, I don't know if you still do. He befriended me when I first came on campus, and we remained the best of friends until he died the summer of '79 from complications from pneumonia. Over all though I enjoyed my tenure at St. Andrews. I have many fond memories, and learned alot. Anyone wanting to write me can send mail to lgm3@aol.com Lance McQuage III"

John F. Patton - 1980

"Just discovered your "unofficial" web site and really enjoy reading people talking personal about their experience at St. A. Most exciting for me is to read that the experiences and love of the place of later alumni are equal to my own, which means the train is still running along the same track! I wanted to share how I came to go there. During my math classes in Lexington (Va) High School i used to read college handbooks. One day I read st. andrews (looking for a small liberal arts college) and a few months later the St. Andrews admissions rep came to the school and, apparently because there wasn't any interest by anyone else in seeing him, happened to contact me because I had checked out the college catalogue. So I met with him and decided to visit while on a trip to see my sister who was at UNC Chapel Hill. I drove down and was given a tour by a student who, thank god!!!, took me on this roundabout trail that crossed the cypress bridge and then up through the woods to the academic side of campus (last time I was there the trail had been abandoned). Even though I was from the god awful gorgeous Blue Ridge Mtns., I still fell in love with the beauty of the place. I had the luck of sitting in on a class of W.D. White's who was lecturing on the Plague, and it was one of the best I had ever heard. The tragedy is that when I actually enrolled there I never ended up in any of his classes! But I was hooked, and never applied to another college. I have lots more to share, but that's how I came to arrive at that wonderful place!" e-mail John F. Patton

1971 - Craig Hannas

"There are a few, at least, whose recollections will be nudged by these surprisingly fresh capsules of the years 1967-71, the latter my year of graduation: WD White's colorful lectures...Professor Charlie Johnson's unparalleled passion for life and learning...Yank Albers smiling and taunting while singlehandedly dominating his opponents' defenses...Sally Chapin's vigor and pleasantness...Nancy Hammond's appeal...Tony Fernandez' rebounding animalism...the zoo that was Suite 7 Winston-Salem (ie., Robinson, Shaw, Kiger, et al)...The pseudo-intellectual and pseudo-revolutionary "social" cliques constantly springing-up...Kemp Gregory's athletic prowess, reserved only for baseball...The fear and wonder instilled by Professor Spencer Ludlow... Blundell's utter confidence...Colby and Snyder romping and anchoring... The sweet ladies guarding the dorms to ward-off male tendencies... Dean Decker as 4 AM bailbondsman in SC...Saturday classes...the empty April campus...Gredlein stealing and strutting on the court...If only Rhue and Welch had played...Brockwell's enthusiasm and salesmanship... The Walter Winchell of SA - Scott McCrea...the stunning Diane Buckle... Bonnie and Clyde...Being married and broke at the halfway point...the constant allure of our college's downtown...Grace Overholser's spirit and decency...Professor Bill Alexander's insights and dedication... Professor Carl Bennett's correctness... Professor David McLean's shared experiences...Professor George Melton's openness...Professor Ron Bayes' genuineness...Academics taking precedence over athletics...Omnipresent "Blackie" and his athletic complex...The mural...The front of the student center...Stumps in a dried-up lake...The mysterious pine forest behind campus...Poetry readings...anti-war demonstrations...applauding Dick Gregory as he insulted us...Barry Goldwater and the Black Mountain Poets on campus...Trailblazing dirt roads to Myrtle Beach at 2 AM with several quarts of Miller...Staying-up too late most nights reading and writing...The Wall and Causewalk...Realizing that wheelies are normal... Caring and being cared about...The New York Rock and Roll Ensemble... Intellectual awakenings...Scottish bagpipes...and thousands of other memories, mostly fond...It all went fast and long ago, but it's no further behind..." - e-mail Craig Hannas

1960's

1969 - Dan Beerman

"Thanks for your e-mail and obvious love of SA. I graduated in '69 in what was the largest graduating in the history of the college. I went on to Princeton & Rutgers for degrees in Divining andSocial Work. I was always amazed in my post grad years how I was always as prepared and often better prepared as a student than many of my peers. SA was a wonderful expereince and I wished that one of my children had wanted to go there."

"I have many stories about SA and will be glad to share them if anyone wants to read them...for example a close encounter with Ansley C. Moore...summer, 1967. We had chapel services once a week in summer school. I volunteered to convene those who wished to contemplate their existance on the little chapel area on the causewalk...the site of bell tower...at the appointed hour I was there and no one else. Five ninutes later, Dr. Moore appeared. We talked about birds, said a small prayer and left. He was a loving and sweet man who had little capacity to talk with students or understand the dynamic times in which we lived. Until the day of his retirement he still thougth of SA as a "city on a hill"...which it truly was, but the world around the city was in flames and being torn apart by the war and racial violence." - e-mail Dan Beerman
